The warm sound of these acoustic kalimbas encourages musical expression thanks to their box resonators. Louder than our board resonated kalimbas, you can even produce vibrato by moving your fingers over the holes on the back of the box.
Lightweight and easy to hold, the board base kalimbas, like their African originals have a sweet sound which can be amplified by holding them against a table. In Africa these were travelling instruments – to be played while walking – the precursor of the personal stereo.
